Dario Scholis
Born in Quito, Ecuador in February of 1955.  He started to paint as a child and by age six he was drawing in Math class instead of adding and subtracting.  His passion was evident even then.  Dario graduated from the renowned Escuela de Bellas Artes at the Central University in Quito, from which Oswaldo Guayasamin and Eduardo Kingman also graduated.  Arriving in the U.S. in 1981 was very difficult.  He did not have the means to dedicate himself to art, so he had several jobs in order to make a living.  He eventually enrolled in the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. Dario has been very successful in South America as well as in different cities in the U.S. and Europe.   He masterfully collects the combined effects of mixed media through the use of acrylics and intaglios, creating distinctive arrangements of bright colors, resulting in a collage of textures, contrasts and emotions.  His themes bring to memory the gentleness of the real or imaginary landscapes, often revealing his great love for music and people.  The originality of Dario's work extends beyond any particular geographic region.
